Five Great Myths about Blogging

Myths

This post is based on a survey conducted by me and my team taking a sample of over 100 people from various places through verbal discussion and exchange of thoughts through e-mails. Blogging is a new phenomenon that hitting new generation. They can easily express their thoughts view and vision thru blogging. But to my surprise there were few myths about blogging that we come to know from these people. I would like to clear the air and presenting my take on these myths that people have about blogging.

Myth No. 1: You need to be a Tech Geek to become a blogger

Now, that’s quite interesting lots of people express that they want to start blogging but do not know much about HTML or PHP, they said they are not very much into website development so they can’t start blogging. So all you peoples out there must know that it a myth, you don’t have to be a Tech Geek to start blogging you don’t need to be a HTML or PHP master to start blogging, you need not to be a We site developer for becoming a blogger. The only knowledge that you need is to how to operate a computer and basic understanding of internet. That’s it, believe me.

Myth No. 2: Blogging is a Costly affair

Many people think that blogging is a costly affair, it require some investment to start blogging. Well in reality blogging cost nothing. If you have a Gmail account you can start blogging instantly, right from today, without spending a single penny. There are many websites which provide people a platform for blogging like Blogger, Typepad, Ibibo, WordPress dot com Live Journal etc. All you have to do is to create an account with them and you yes are done, you can start blogging. These sites will provide you a URL which will be like your blog name and that website name suffix/prefix with it.

But if you wish to have your own domain name like www.Yourwebsitename.com then you need to spend some money to register a domain name and to buy some space on web. After that you can install WordPress Blogging Software on it which is off course is free blogging software. So it’s a very little amount of money that you need to spend to start blogging with your own brand domain name, that money will not be more then the cost of a ceiling fan or a branded shirt.

Myth No. 3 Bloggers are making BIG money online

It’s not that hard to make money online with blogging, but it’s also not that easy to make money online. It’s a myth that bloggers are making huge money online with blogging, there are very few who are doing so. I know couple of bloggers who are blogging for last one year and not even make it to US$ 100 so that Google can send them their first AdSense cheque (check). Most of the blogger never cross the threshold limit fixed by the various affiliates so that to qualify for getting paid. If you are making big money online with blogging then you are fortunate and done an unbelievable, sleepless, restless hard work to come to this stage. Am I Right?

Myth No. 4: Blogging is a hobby not a Profession

Most of the people we survey still believe that you can not make blogging as a full time profession, for them it’s a hobby, just an idea to spend some time and to my surprise some of them said that it just like an off line chatting system. Well, what to say, there are examples, lots of bloggers are doing it as their profession. They have proved it and if you great writing skill then you can make a living by blogging itself. Take the example of Darren Rowse or Shoemoney or Tech Church and even John Chow they all are know in the blogsphere as professional bloggers. You can also write for various other blog for money. Myth No. 5: For Blogging you need lots of free time

Well, many people we talk to, think that it’s a time consuming job, in fact to the contrary its take hardy one or two hour of your daily routine. You may think over your topic all the day long, draft it on a paper, but to put on the website or to publish it on your blog it require only one hour or so of your time. If you are good at typing you can finish it off in just half an hour. I mean it.
