One of the important criteria on which Google Ranks websites is Domain Age. That mean if a website has a shorten expiration period then Google may treat it as a site created for spamming purpose. The reason for this is that many spam sites are often registered for short periods of time.
Domain registration for two years or five year is a good idea. That’s why many Hosting and domain registration sites come up with some really great offers for registration of longer duration. You can make upfront payments to book your domain for several years. The other advantage is that you can save few bucks while booking a domain for a longer period.
Nice post SHanker, If my domain expires I will extend it for another 3years.
Oh, I didn’t even know that the domains’ age also affected the Google Penalizing desicion here…
Great tips, Shanker and I will keep my eyes on it!
Google may not penalise you but it takes a while for them to give you a page rank….Domain age is a vital factor for gaining PR
Great reminder for bloggers Shanker. Google placed more trust on websites that have domain age greater than 1. Both domain age and period are used as a factor in the algorithm for the SERPs. Sites that are more trusted by Google are usually rank higher.

This is like Catch 22…
What one need to do?
I’ve extended my domain just for another year. If I knew this I would bought it for 5 years. Thanks for letting us know about this!
Nice insight… dot com, net and org are little bit less affected of penalization compared with .info ones which are highly prone…
Google Baby always put certain conditions.
For 4 years I have registered my domain yearly. It’s just this year (August) that I decided to register it for 2 years.
I’ve actually just extended my domain a few weeks ago to 5 years
Interesting, I am still wondering if they give a penlty for subdomains. Will thekw.com have more presidense over thekw.somedomain.com. So far my experiments have shown that they do, and dramaticly, what do you guys think? Thanks for posting!
The operational word here is “may.” Does anyone know how to find out when “may” turns in to Google current policy?
