Blog Action Day 2008 – Help Eliminate Poverty

Today is Blog Action Day; thousands of bloggers unite to discuss a single issue – poverty. Aim to raise awareness, initiate action and to shake the web!

If I talk about my country India, one-third of population lives below the poverty line and India is home to one-third of the world’s poor people. Efforts to alleviate poverty are on in fact speed up after government opens the Indian economy to the world in 1991. Economic reform has changes the face of India since then.

Can we make a difference to this situation, yes we can, I take a oath on this auspicious occasion of Blog action day that whatever I will earn through Shanker Bakshi dot com, I will spend at least 10 % of it every month to feed the need of people living in slums and poverty. I’m telling you this not to impress you but just to make a call that we can make these sorts of vows to contribute something towards our society.

    Hi Shanker,

It was nice to see your post on Blog Action Day. It would be great if you could let your many readers know about http://www.giveindia.org , a NGO that lets donors from anywhere in the world make a secure online donation to a cause of their own choice. Donors receive a feedback report in a few months so they learn about the person they helped.

GiveIndia is a very transparent and credible organisation run by professionals. We also have our own blog at http://blog.giveindia.org

    Hope you’ll visit!

This is good info, Shanker. Imagine how many blog owners are earning through blogging. This could really make a difference in the world and help those in need.

Heading over there tonight, thanks :)

I would get thousands of emails in between right?

  6. Vaibhav says:

Well, there is Kiva.org if you really want to help: Introduction to Kiva

And if you want to concentrate on India, then visit rangde.org

Both the sites are following a model of microfinancing for those who are seeking loans to improve their lives. I strongly urge everyone to check these out.

    Cheers.

The hate discussed there is not only irrational, but will make the most tolerant non-whites begin to hate whites on a whole. ,
