Like they do every year, Website and Blog Ranking site Technorati released “State of the Blogsphere 2010″ report last week.
It reveals very important and useful information about blogsphere. I was looking for analysis about blog traffic in this year’s report. As expected blogger try to build brand and try to drive traffic from social media sites. audience-building methods include tagging blog posts, using Twitter and Facebook, commenting on other blogs, and listing one’s blog on Google. Social media sites are greatly outpacing search engine optimization (SEO) as widely-used marketing tools, as only 38% of bloggers use SEO.
Our lovely blogging plate form WordPress is the most popular among bloggers, 40% of all survey respondents use WordPress. Blogger and Blogspot are also popular, although significantly more popular with Hobbyists than with other bloggers. Not Only this only 1% of respondents reported that they did not know how their blog was built, and 49% reported using a free third-party blogging plate software service.

@ Mr. Bakshi it is reality that mostly bloggers use social media to drive the traffic on their blog/s because you know that social media is one of the best networking platform where any one can spread his voice virally.Even social media is cost effective way to spread the message.
On the other hand,SEO is a bit difficult part for newbie.Writing is other thing than SEO.

Social media give results instantly and on the other hand SEO takes time. But one thing I must say good about SEO is you get consistent traffic after you have gained some decent ranking in search engines whereas in social media if you get back for few days and don’t share or interact with anyone you will see drop in your traffic stats.
Nice presentation but the best way to get traffic is to optimize your site under a particular keyword. Social media traffic is also good but it should be niche specific.

Definitely lot of bloggers now a days don’t give much importance to the very traditional method of getting visitors i.e. SEO but instead they focus more social media now a days.
i use social media to drive traffic like most of the bloggers do…. but it doesn’t mean i do not concentrate on other tools……

I see the social networks played a big role and online advertising is not performing well. I think it would also be good if search engines emerge as the highest.
