What a Blogger Can Learn From Rebecca Black

But before that do you think is there anything at all we learn from that “Tiny Little Ghost” (leave blogging aside). For those who just whispered “who the hell is Rebecca Black?”and those (lucky guys) who never heard about  Rebecca Black here are excerpt from Wiki

Rebecca Black (born June 21, 1997) is an American pop singer who gained extensive media attention with her 2011 single “Friday“. Her mother paid $4,000 to have the single and an accompanying music video put out as a vanity release through the record label ARK Music Factory. The song was co-written and produced by Clarence Jey and Patrice Wilson of Ark Music Factory. After the video went viral on YouTube and other social media sites, “Friday” was derided by many music critics and viewers, who dubbed it “the worst song ever.” The music video received around 167 million views, causing Black to gain international attention as a “viral star,” before being removed from the site on June 16. Black re-uploaded it in her own channel three months later.

Lets add up some fun, someone has posted one funny video about Rebecca Black titled Hitler’s reaction after hearing Rebecca Black’s “Friday”.

Hitler’s reaction after hearing Rebecca Black’s “Friday”

I think this will complete her introduction. She is a singer, she has a record to her name of getting world’s most “dislike” (more than 3,190,000 ) on a song on YouTube. The song is titled “FRIDAY” ( or should I write FRIDAY, FRIDAY, FRIDAY)

Now the question is “what a blogger can learn from Rebecca Black?”

[1] GET IT DONE at any cost

This song was recorded as a “vanity release”. A vanity release is when the singers bears the cost of producing and recording of a song. Rebecca Black’s mother paid a whooping over $4000 dollars to Ark Music to produce her daughter’s music video while the Blacks retained ownership of both the master and the video. The point is, if you are passionate about something and very much sure about its “commercial” success then you must give it a try. Keeping the copyright intact was a great move.

So if you are passionate about blogging and you think that you can make a mark in blogsphere then there is no harm in investing some money on it, like buying space, hiring authors, marketer and developers for that matter, based on your calculated risk ( I’m not talking about taking blind risk).

The way FRIDAY video was emerged and got viral on YouTube and social networking sites, it seems it was all planned and “blacks”  were sure about the success of this song (or about the hate against it :-) )

[2] CONTENT is not the king

Marketing is. See the song lyrics;

7am, waking up in the morning, Gotta be fresh, gotta go downstairs Gotta have my bowl,

gotta have cereal Seein’ everything, the time is goin’ Tickin’ on and on, everybody’s rushin’ Gotta get down to the bus stop Gotta catch my bus,

I see my friends (My friends)

Kickin’ in the front seat, Sittin’ in the back seat Gotta make my mind up, Which seat can I take?

I mean its an insult to creative lyrics writing. But who cares. You must keep this in your mind that the song was once Billboard’s TOP 100. Mind it. So the point is, you can create (or do ) wonders if you have a solid marketing team in your pocket or have ability to do it by yourself.

I am not telling you here that you can serve garbage content to your readers and can still rock in blogsphere, but the point I’m making here is that marketing is a great powerful tool provided you know how to use it.

[3] Social Networking Rocks

Video was uploaded on YouTube on February 10, 2011, and in its initial month it got only 1000 views. The video went viral when it become the most-talked-about topic on Twitter, and garnering mostly negative media talks. later on it was shared by millions of users on facebook.

Taking inspiration from that you must learn from where you can get your men.   May be it was a plan to the music video viral on these two social networking giant, but you can really make hell lot of difference if these two sites start “praising” your content or start “abusing” you or your content.

[4] Negative is POSITIVE sometime

Tell me what would happen if tomorrow Mr. Daren Rowse start writing on his blog about “how bad my blog is” ( this is an example I’m not bad though LoL). Every one who will read those posts would definitely pay a visit to my blog. AND tell me as a blogger what you need most, visitors, right? so visitor will keep flowing in.

If you remember once I wrote about the “infamous” fight  between John Chow and Jeremy Jeremy Schoemaker. I don’t know what other thinks about it, but it was a planned fight. Both these guys were fighting to prove who can gain maximum RSS subscribers. ( now you understand the point I guess).

[5] How to Answer Criticism

Several videos in response to her “FRIDAY” released afterwards by various YouTube users , well if you were Rebecca Black ( please don’t take it as am abusing you) you would probably die reading those nasty comments with more than 30 million “dislikes’ but believe me this girl really have guts to overcome everything, but do you know Rebecca has a plan give answers to all these negative criticism, she is releasing  her follow-up single entitled “LOL.

Well this is the best answer anyone can give, to all the critics.
