There are reports that twitter’s profit will reach $400 million by 2013. In year 2010 twitter made nearly $45 million, well that would be almost 100% growth in profit in year 2013 then. Twitter’s this years profit would be around $140 million. Twitter currently have 250 million user base and out of those nearly 100 million are active users.

Some of you must be wondering how Twitter Makes Money ( This is because you probably haven’t seen any conventional ad format on twitter’s official site).

Since their debut in April 2010, Twitter’s Promoted Products have proven successful in the US, Marketers have shown solid engagement rates with Twitter advertising—in some cases better than those on Facebook—despite Twitter’s relatively smaller audience.”

eMarketer principal analyst Debra Aho Williamson.

Twitter’s Source of Making Money

Well there three ways thorugh which twitter generate its profits;

Promoted Tweets

Promoted Trends

Promoted Accounts

Promoted Tweets

These are keyword-targeted, cost-per-click ads that appear in all Twitter search results. So if you will search at http://search.twitter.com you can see Sponsored promoted tweets. This system works exactly in the same fashioned as Google’s AdWords program, which means one has to bid higher to appear for targeted keywords search.

Promoted Tweets in search appear as content at the top the search results page. It targeted to followers appear at or near the top of a timeline when a user logs on or refreshes the timeline, users interact with a Promoted Tweet as they would with an organic Tweet

Promoted Tweets are offered on a Cost-per-Engagement (CPE) basis, so you only pay when someone retweets, replies to, clicks or favorites your Promoted Tweet.

Promoted Trends

A Promoted Trend gets massive exposure and is ideally placed to kickstart or amplify a conversation on Twitter and beyond. Promoted Trends give users something new and exciting to discover, participate in, and share. Users who click on a Promoted Trend see Twitter search results for that topic, with a related Promoted Tweet from the advertiser at the top.

This service of twitter is currently in Beta, a small section of advertisers can use this service. I guess this is the best way to promote products and services on twitter as it can earn you over 50 million impressions in a day.

Promoted Accounts

The Promoted Account is featured in search results and within the Who To Follow section. Who To Follow is Twitter’s account recommendation engine and identifies similar accounts and followers to help users.

Big Brands and users are willing to pay twitter to show up their Twitter account in order to build large users base. You can target specific country, area, communities, Interests. This is another good way for Twitter to generates its money.

Twitter has invented one more way to make money and that’s called political ads. Political Ads are advertising campaigns purchased by political advertisers in order to reach a wider audience or engage current followers on Twitter.

Below is an example of it.

I wasn’t very active on twitter lately, so I thought why not to find a tool that can help me tweet at regular interval automatically giving impression to my followers that I am still very much there, and if there is some tool why not to tweet about old posts on this blog. Its was very good idea as I have written over 500 posts on this blog and tweeting old posts will definitely help boosting traffic.

I search for some plugin to do that and it wasn’t very difficult to find one.

There is Tweet Old Post Plugin by Ajay Matharu that help to tweet your older posts to get more traffic. It randomly picks your older post based on the interval specified by you. The primary function of this plugin is to promote older blog posts by tweeting about them and getting more traffic.

Problem with the plugin

One Possible problem if you install this plugin would be that it can tweet about posts which are irrelevant to the time. Like Contest, monthly coupon code or your Black Friday Discount deal posts.

Possible Solution

Yes, there is a solution about this problem if you know which categories have these sorts of posts. Say if you have contest announcement posts in Contest Category then this plugin allow you to exclude specific categories, and you can put a check to stop this plugin tweeting posts in that specific category.

if you have these posts in different category still you can resolve this problem by searching all those posts and assign a specific category by using bulk edit option and then excluding this category in plugin admin option.

Read About Bulk Edit option of WordPress HERE

I am using this plugin since last one week, so far so good. Lets see how it goes in long-term.

If you know any other better option let me know in comment section below.

The importance of a tweet does not exceed 60 minutes

This means that the importance is such that the information did not have time to be properly digested. In summary, one could also say that 80% of the content we produce on Twitter goes completely forgotten. And the worst part is that it is the users who have caused this phenomenon. The first and most Twitter users are bloggers and journalists, were also those who only the day before. These three types of users provide only one type of content: links. Thus, interaction with others is non-existent, because they spend their time looking for new information. In fact, most never reply to tweets and I have rarely seen a Thanks for the RT from a large users.

The principle of no conversation on Twitter, and even the efficiency is lower. Many people see this tool in a way to increase their audience, but you not only have good followers, but also do it the right time. Tweet item to 2am, and you know what I mean.

Not a social network, but a source of information

For most of us, Twitter is becoming a gigantic source of information, so we can no longer be considered a social network. It’s more a bookmarking site like Digg where the influence of a user is measured by its influence, not its quality. Another study indicates that users were tired of social networks in general. One key reason is that the same content that runs in a loop with different variations. If you’ve been on Twitter these days, you’ve probably heard of the purchase Techcrunch by AOL, and do you also noticed the number of articles on the event. One idea has been remixed hundreds of times by invoking the purchase amount, reason, personality Michael Arrington, etc.. There are so many other topics of conversation, but it focuses on the latest target audience and monetization. It is not wrong in itself (even I do), but Twitter can do much more..
